POST CONFERENCE EPHESUS TOUR

APRIL 21 - 22, 2007

DAY 1
IZMIR-EPHESUS ANCIENT CITY, MARY'S HOUSE, ARCHEOLOGICAL MUSEUM.

Right after breakfast in the hotel we'll depart for the airport for our flight to Izmir. When we get there, we will depart for the exploration of one of the greatest archaeological sites as well as Seven Churches in the Book of Revelation. Ephesus where St. Paul preached is an ancient city. The city in 2nd century was the second biggest city after Alexandria. It was also leading worshipping center. Later on city kept its religious importance not only in Byzantine but also in Turkish era. The Third Ecumenical Council was held in Ephesus. St John is buried here and holly Virgin spent her last days in this city also. The east Gymnasium, the state Agora, the remain of the Temple of Isis (Goddess of Egypt), the Heracletes Gate, Curates Street named for the college of priests located here. Moreover Scholastic Baths well preserved Celsius Library, Marble Road, great theater that is still hosting the concerts and festivals, Arcadian way, (Harbor Street) are also located in this region. Then, we are heading to the home of the Virgin Mary, who was brought to Ephesus by John, the beloved disciple of Jesus. Over a hundred thousand pilgrims now visit the home of Virgin Mary on a hilltop, where she lived out her days each year. The pilgrims drink the water of the sacred spring, meditate and pray for health at this ancient spot of worship. Both Pope Paul VI in 1967 and Pope John Paul II in 1979 have celebrated mass here. And finally we will visit the local archeological museum with a great ancient collection of the remaining coming from the site of Ephesus. Finally, we will drive to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 2
SIRINCE VILLAGE, LUNCH, FLY BACK TO ISTANBUL

This morning we are heading to a beautiful village called “Sirince” means “lovely” by the mountain where we will visit the old Greek and Turkish houses and the market area. After lunch we will drive to Izmir for our flight to Istanbul,
